Marcus Pinto

Marcus Pinto is an artist in New York City, and a BFA graduate of Hunter College. His recent work in photography centers on reflections of people in relation to body image. The technique of the work is influenced by André Kertész's 1933 photography which depicted funhouse mirror reflections of the female nude.

Pinto's photographs adopt a similar technique, using himself and others as subjects of dysmorphic portraiture. The reflections achieve autonomy, creating images beyond the conventional control of the photographer and the model. The model is no longer aware of the image he/she is projecting.

The photographer's reaction is recorded on film (not digitally manipulated). The viewer is forced to confront the image and accept it as an unchangeable reality.
