Andrea Kleine
Andrea Kleine has worked as a director, choreographer,
and performer in theater, dance, and film. Critically
acclaimed for her avant-garde theater and dance
works, she has received commissions and grants
from NYSCA, the Jerome Foundation, NYC Department
of Cultural Affairs, the Joyce Mertz-Gilmore Foundation
and the Fox/Samuels Foundation.
Her multi-media theater productions and installations
have been presented extensively in New York at
PS 122, the Kitchen, Dance Theater Workshop, among
others. She was a member of the Lincoln Center
Theater Director's Lab, a Mabou Mines resident
artist and a finalist for the 2002 Mcknight Fellowship.
Her short films and videos have been screened
at the Walker Art Center, Art in General, and
Franklin Furnace.ĘShe co-directed the short film
Murmur
with Virgil Wong which was screened at the 2002
Sundance Film Festival.
The Village Voice has described Kleine
as a "master of expression" and a "stellar performer."
The New York Times has described her work
as "visually impressive."
She is currently adapting her performance work
CLAUDE, about the surrealist photographer
Claude Cahun, into a film.
